What is Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu first came to the U.S in 1904 when President Roosevelt invited Mitsuyo Maeda to the United States to teach Judo. Maeda later traveled to Brazil and taught the now famous Gracie family. The martial art didn't become popular in the United States, until a Brazilian named Royce Gracie shocked the world in the first ever UFC tournament. In the tournament Royce found himself fighting and defeating opponents who were significantly bigger than him.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or "Bjj" as it is sometimes called, is more than just another martial art. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches it's practitioners to rely on using technique, leverage, and critical problem solving skills to beat larger and stronger adversaries.

Jiu Jitsu also offers the ability to subdue and de-escalate a tense situation without needing to cause any physical harm, which is why it comes so highly recommended for those looking to improve their self defense capabilities.
